Birds of prey are important indicators of ecosystem health due to their position at the top of the food chain. Many are declining, reflecting recent increases in anthropogenic impacts in the form of agricultural intensification and afforestation. Stopping these declines requires an understanding of potential knock-on effects within food-webs. Using the kestrel as a model species, my PhD aims to understand how kestrels choose habitat for foraging during the breeding season and how that habitat affects their ability to hunt and reproduce.
